Thursday Turnaround – September 29

Another Thursday night, and we're are starting to fall back into the usual routine. We did have one new premiere though, in How To Be a Gentleman

How to Be a Gentleman

Overall, this present tense narrative show is one of CBS's weaker attempts this season. While it does have a bit of humor, none of that cast is very compelling and the writing in general is subpar. Despite the fact it follows The Big Bang Theory, I don't think it's long for this world.

Wednesday Wrap-up – September 28

Happy Endings

Blax, Snake, Home

In the unlikely season two premiere, Dave and Alex celebrate their one year anniversary of not getting married, and Penny takes her first steps to spinsterhood. Isn't having a 20s party to celebrate not being a spinster a sign of being a spinster?

Suburgatory Suburgatory Pilot

Maybe behind a pair of giant synthetic breasts, you can find a giant non synthetic heart.

To be honest, I had very little hope for Suburgatory based on it's lackluster previews and weak concept. After tonight's premiere though, I would have to say that I am pleasantly surprised at this spunky comedy and consider it one of the funniest shows on the ABC lineup just behind Modern Family. The first person narrative reminds me of a quirky combination of Scrubs and Better Off Ted with a little less fantasy and insanity and a lot of sarcasm and wit.

Tuesday Thinking – September 27

New Girl

Kryptonite

Tonight's New Girl tones down some of the insanity and general dislike of the cast to give us something a little more tolerable. Also during the time between the pilot and episode two, we gain a new intro sequence, and a replacement cast member Lamorne Morris as Winston, the former roommate returning from playing professional basketball overseas.

Overall, the episode deals with Jess's fear of breaking up, despite the fact her heart was broken and she was completely taken advantage of. Tonight, Jess is a lot less insane, which is refreshing.

Glee I Am Unicorn

Sadly, Glee has already seemed to fall back into its modus operandi of unlikeable characters all trying to backstab each other as they try to meet all their own agendas.

Monday Minutes – September 27

Hawaii Five 0

Ua Lawe Wale (Taken)

Five-0 adds a new team member with Lori Westin (Lauren German), a former Homeland Security agent now assigned as "babysitter" to makes sure McGarrett doesn't break every law on the books. If anything, he and I would be too distracted to break any laws.

Terra Nova Genesis

At first glance, Terra Nova seems like a opportunity for Spielberg to show off some Jurassic Park stories that he never got around to filming and to use some unused CGI assets left over from ten years ago. In reality, Terra Nova is a halfway interesting science fiction filled with a delicate balance between drama, action, and preaching.

How I Met Your Mother Ducky Tie

This week's episode "Ducky Tie" is a fun fast paced episode that returns us to the type of How I Met Your Mother storytelling that reminds us of the borderline insanity that we love so much about the group. The two main story arcs this week involve a wager involving Lilly's pregnancy boobs, and the story of what happened after the Architecture Gala between Ted and Victoria.

Pan Am Pan Am Premiere

Pan Am is an ABC Sunday night drama that follows the crew of the brand new Clipper Majestic as they travel around the world in search of adventure along with the passengers they watch over. Like the NBC show The Playboy Club, the show takes place in the majestic year of 1963, but unlike its competitor, it doesn't beat the viewer over the head with front and center nostalgia or a cliche storyline.
