Heroes Reborn – 11:53 To Odessa Review

Did the Heroes Reborn mid-season finale answer your questions or just leave you with more?

As usual, this week’s Heroes Reborn is a general mess of a whole series of events that don’t make a lot of logical sense. Let the hate-blog begin….

Noah, after a series of pains and losses, completely refuses Luke’s help. Despite the obvious sincerity, he’d rather go it alone than have someone helping him. It’s not like he has a lot of allies now.

Why is the mob so ready to hurt a teenage girl? Didn’t they literally just watch her suppress the crazy magnetic storm? At least Luke got to put his power to use a little bit.

Why the hell would you put a future human colony in the middle of Odessa Texas? I mean, sure, there’s no way to know if there is oceans or water anywhere, but I would think if you are only going 7800 years in the future, the continents would still be in the same general position.

Did Farah spill her guts? Maybe, it’s unclear. Might not matter anyways because the writers are clearly moving towards writing Matt Parkman to have a change of heart and become a good guy. Once again, they just can’t commit to anything.

Of course Erica can’t use Tommy as the replacement Hiro. Tommy’s power isn’t time travel, it’s absorbing people’s power. It also brings up the question, how the hell does Erica even know what Tommy’s power really is?

Does Otomo have some way of sending messages backwards though the game to Ren? I totally don’t understand how that plot point works in general. And wasn’t he already in Odessa?

Suddenly Quentin is starting to have bad feeling about Erica’s plan. Seriously? Did he somehow NOT know that Erica was sending only a small group to the future? Surely he knows. Why does he suddenly start to grow a conscience?

Tommy sure is pretty easy to convince. He went from “Erica is evil” to “well maybe I can use her to save my family” in the span of about five minutes. This is even after he directly asks the question “how are you going to get 7 billion people here?” which Erica literally responds “I won’t.” This whole time, everyone has been telling him of his destiny to save the world, and suddenly he’s just going to give up?

On the plus side, Miko jumps down and reminds him he has a job and that she’s there to save his ass. Now that Erica is basically stranded in the “future”, can’t our heroes just save the world and call it a day? Who is even around to give orders anymore? Is Harris just going to run around doing whatever task he has? If Tommy lies low and doesn’t allow himself to get captured again, what can Renataus even do about it?

As always Heroes biggest problem is they just can’t commit to any story line. Every plot, every character, has to have some kind of twist and turn. They have to have some kind of change of conscience back and forward. They have to go between good, evil, and back again constantly. It’s exhausting, confusing, and boring.

Other Observations

  • “How did you know it wasn’t me?” “Oh I didn’t….50 50 is pretty good odds.”
  • Matt Parkman’s “I’m reading your mind” camera trick looks as terrible as it did back in the day.
  • Does Carlos even have a purpose?
