Heroes Reborn – Project Reborn Review

Our heroes meet their final end in the series finale of Heroes Reborn

After thirteen episodes of tedium, Heroes Reborn gets a merciful and actually semi coherent end that actually wraps up the storylines in a semi satisfying way.

Heroes Reborn assaulted our minds with convoluted rehashed storylines that didn’t make sense within itself. Tommy/Nathan (he starts to go by his original name) spends most of the episode stuck in the Evernow Matrix prison remembering where he came from and the true extent of his powers. Apparently the key was Tommy and Malia can combine to create a solar flare shield around the globe, but only if they use a poor sap as a conduit. (Of course it’s Noah.)

I’m not sure how her earth sciences power combines with his power stealing ability to create a shield, but ok.

Ex machina after ex machina solves every problem of the series and it’s basically infuriating. Quentin goes a spine and has to kill his sister to save the day while Ren gets to go back into Evernow to release Tommy from the prison. The biggest disappointment has to be Carlos, who at the end of the day, doesn’t seem to do…anything? Meanwhile, Luke, in the final redemption of his redemption arc, goes out in a blaze of glory absorbing the first solar flare after a little bit of Superman style solar absorbing.

Heroes Reborn brings an end to the universe built over the last decade, but of course leaves us with yet one more cliffhanger that will never get answered, the return of the twins’ father. In any rate, if you slogged though it these last few months, congratulations. You at least got some kind of wrap up at least.

Last Notes

  • Tim Kring has stated that there is no cliffhanger, but a door left open for future installments. NBC head Bob Greenblatt, noted that this door also remains open for “future installments.” Our nightmare may not be over yet.
  • Kring managed to get that one last jab in with the Cheerleader using the original series finale news clip.
  • Can you really support a clip episode of a show that only had 13 episodes to begin with?
