It is currently unknown who of the original production staff and cast will return, but one clear absence will be the voice of veteran artist Mako Iwamatsu to voice the dark wizard Aku due to his passing in 2006.

The original series aired from 2001 to 2005 with 52 masterfully animated episodes, but lacked any final resolution to the story. From 2013 to 2015, IDW Publishing, in partnership with Cartoon Network, produced 20 comic books to continue the story and show the future story of Jack and his allies. With this 2016 return, it’s unknown if this new series will cover any of the material or will be completely new material that either builds upon or invalidates the canon of the comic.
